Class Work and Home Work 2011/2012
Students are expected to complete assignments in class and at home (home work).
Class work includes group work and independent work. When working on group assignments, students are encouraged to discuss the content and share ideas. Independent work is not shared information. Students are expected to complete their own assignments. Sharing of information during independent work time does not give an accurate view of students' academic strengths and weaknesses. Independent work helps to monitor the academic progress of the student(s). Students will track assignments daily in their "student planner." This will include class work and home work assignments. Please review your child's planner daily, then sign or initial as an indicator that you have reviewed it.
Assignments turned in after due date is reviewed, but credit is not given for late work.
Home work is designed to review prior knowledge and reinforce/practice concepts taught in class. Students may need assistance in completing home work assignments, but should have an understanding of the material. Reading at home is assigned daily. Additional assignments are also given Monday through Friday. Practicing the words from the Spelling list are assigned as daily home work. Students are also assigned "study pages" that are to be studied/completed at home, but not required to be returned. Students are assessed over these pages. Time will usually be scheduled for students to begin homework in class. If students complete home work at school, they are required to take it home for parent review.
Home work is usually due the following day. Some home work will be (student self graded) corrected in class. Some will be turned in for recorded grades.
If your child brings home unmarked assignments, his/her work may not have been turned in. Assignments should have CW for classwork, HW (or homework), grade, or test written or stamped on them.
Late assignments will be reviewed, however, students do not receive credit for late assignments. Some class work not completed at school (as is expected) may be sent as home work. The exception to this policy is in the occurrence of an absence.
You can monitor your child's grades by reviewing the PowerSchool link on the district website. If you need assistance to access this site, or to obtain a password, please contact Mrs. West at the school (918-925-1460).
